Fugitive Emissions
What are Fugitive Emissions?
Fugitive Emissions are emissions of gases or vapors from pressurized
equipment due to leaks and various other unintended or irregular releases of
gases, mostly from industrial activities. As well as the
economic cost of lost commodities, fugitive emissions contribute to air
pollution and suspected climate change.
How do we rank?
Western Valve has received a verifiable zero leak rate Fugitive Emission
Test Report performed by Yarmouth Research and Technology for 2009.
What does all this mean for our Customers?
Our customers are being provided with the highest standard in valves on
the market today. While other companies are having to explore and invest in
sealing technologies and solutions to prevent leaking on existing valves,
Western Valve has been providing a superior product since 2000.
Recycling - Almost 100% of all steel used in DAN-EX valves is recycled or
recyclable material.
Western Valve also remanufactures valves to their original
specifications, which can help reduce overall costs to the customer.
How do Fugitive Emissions Affect Our Customers?
Globally, there are several organizations working to put into place rules
and regulations to help reduce Fugitive Emissions, (EPA, ESA, TA-Luft, etc.)
Existing valves may need to be retrofitted with a bellows or equivalent
sealing system, creating added expense, maintenance, and potential downtime.
Western Valve manufactures the DAN-EX Dual Expanding Plug Valve (double
block and bleed) valve that is efficient, reliable and clean, making it
possible for our customers to remain operational, meet international
emissions criteria, and have a positive impact on the quality of the
environment.
Making a Difference
Western
Valve is here to help you succeed. We recognize the need for a valve that
allows you to maximize your resources, while at the same time minimizing
your impact on the environment. That
balancing act has been achieved with our DAN-EX Double Block and Bleed
valves. Zero Fugitive Emissions valves are just one less thing you have to
worry about.
- Rubber O-ring - The main o-ring provides an excellent seal
around the stem during normal operation.
- Backup O-ring - The backup o-ring is used to prevent a leak
under extreme pressure. Backup o-rings, while not a seal themselves; are
used in conjunction to the primary seal o-ring.
- Valve Stem Packing - is used to prevent Fugitive Emissions release.
This is a vast improvement over other sealing technologies.
- Grafoil Seal - Grafoil is a flexible material engineered for
critical sealing applications. The DAN-EX valve sealing system
incorporates a Grafoil seal for superior sealing in almost any
condition.
How do Fugitive Emissions Affect Your Business?
- Uncontrolled release of gas or industrial product into the
environment (pollution, cleanup, fines, etc.)
- Downtime and lost production time - the downtime, labor,
materials costs and lost production time over the life of the valves
should be a major factor in the purchase along with other operating
performance factors.
- Safety - Fugitive Emissions present other risks and hazards.
Emissions of volatile organic compounds such as benzene from oil
refineries and chemical plants pose a long-term health risk to workers
and communities. In situations where large amounts of flammable liquids
and/or gases are contained under pressure, leaks also increase the risk
of fire and explosion.
Fire Safe Design
The DAN-EX 3 inch and up Class 150 and 300 valve has been
fire tested in accordance with ISO 10497:2004(E) and conformed to the
temperature, duration and pressure requirements of the specifications.
